6th Month Baby Development

Regimen For Pregnant Woman
During pregnancy lot of physical and emotional as well as hormonal changes take place in women. Therefore it is important to take care of proper nourishment to pregnant lady as well as her growing Baby in the womb. Eating the right food can help to shape the future of your baby’s health. Hence it is important to be very careful about diet during pregnancy.
Here are some guidelines regarding diet to be taken and diet to be avoided during pregnancy along with some non-dietary measures:
Diet to be taken during:
1st month:
1. With slightest indication of pregnancy, start using cow’s pure milk and should be consumed 2-3 times a day as per individual capacity.
2. Milk should be consumed preferably without addition of any other substance to it and with a lot of foam and bubbles in it. It should be cold(at room temperature)
3. Also food products and fruits containing high water content (like green coconut, fresh juice of fruits etc) should be consumed during first month.
4. Avoid food, which is not fresh, dry and hard in nature.
2nd month:
1. Formation of blood takes place from 6th week onwards. Therefore diet in this month should aim at increasing formation of blood and substances that are sweet, sour-sweet and unctuous in nature should be used.
2. Use of pomegranate, beet, carrot etc is very much useful during this month.
3. Juice of pomegranate, hog plum (embellica), grapes etc is useful.
4. Use of milk should be continued with addition of sweet substance like sugar, liquorice etc.
3rd month:
1. During this month development of muscular tissue takes place.
2. Milk prepared with addition of honey and ghee should be consumed in this month. Milk should be at room temperature and avoid use of honey in hot milk.
3. Diet should be rich in pure ghee, milk etc sweet in taste.
4. Fruits like apple, jujube, dates, mango etc are useful during this month.
5. As far as possible try to fulfill desires of pregnant lady, especially regarding diet from this month onwards. Suppression of such desires may adversely affect the growth of baby.
4th month:
1. Nourishment of fatty tissue as well as heart takes place in this month.
2. Diet should be of unctuous nature rich in fats like pure ghee and butter.
3. Use of milk should be continued daily with addition of pure butter to it.
5th month:
1. Nourishment of bones as also development of mind takes place during this month.
2. Cow’s milk with addition of ghee to it should be consumed in this month.
3. Also use of dry fruits like almond, cashew nut etc or fruits like date palm, coconut etc should be used during this month.
6th month:
1. Development of wisdom takes place during this month.
2. Milk with pure ghee with addition of sweet substance like sugar, liquorice etc should be consumed daily.
3. Dry fruits like walnut, almond cashew nut etc along with diet rich in pure ghee are beneficial.
4. Pregnant women should try and remain calm and happy free from all types of mental stress. Relaxation measures like meditation or praying the god etc is beneficial.
7th month:
1. Use of milk should be continued it as in 6th month.
2. Saffron could be added to milk for better overall nourishment in this month.
3. Also use of pure butter is useful in this month.
8th month:
1. Rice with pure ghee and milk should be consumed from time to time as per individual capacity.
2. Avoid heavy or too spicy diet. Diet should always contain sufficient quantity of pure ghee.
3. Pregnant lady should avoid all types of strenuous activities.
9th month:
1. Diet rich in milk, ghee etc should be continued.
2. Avoid constipation. Use of milk with ghee or mild laxative once a week is advisable.
3. Light oil massage over low back, hips and lower limbs is very useful and should be given from time to time as per advice of concerned physician.
4. Use of enema with medicated oil is indicated in this month and should be given as per advice of concerned physician.
5. Also, cotton swab dipped in medicated oil should be placed in vagina at night daily. This helps in normal delivery and caesarian section may be avoided.
Note:
1. Diet should be fresh, unctuous in nature and sweet to taste rich in milk and ghee.
2. Maintain a regular diet. Lunch and dinner should be as early as possible.
3. Instead of heavy lunch and dinner, light diet 3-4 times a day is advisable.
4. 1gm of pure gold should be heated on a gas for about half a minute and then dipped in a glass of water at room temperature. Daily drinking of such water early morning helps to build immune power of baby and also provides good resistance power against disease. It is a safe and easy procedure and should be carried out from 7th month onwards. However care should be taken that gold should be absolutely pure in quality and no copper etc is mixed with it.
Diet not to be taken:
1. Avoid food that is dry in nature like bread, biscuits etc.
2. Diet should not be too spicy.
3. Avoid food outside home, overnight food or food cooked again and again.
4. Food products heavy to digest like pizza, burger, sandwiches etc are not advisable.
5. Irregular food habits are not at all good for health and should be strictly avoided.
6. Avoid mixture of milk with fruits like milkshakes, fruit salads etc.
7. Chilled and Ready-made food: Cold meats, food sold loose from delicatessen counters and ready-made soups and salads should be avoided. These foods may contain the listeria bacteria, which can lead to a type of food poisoning. If a woman catches listeriosis early in the pregnancy, this lead to a higher risk of miscarriage. Later in pregnancy, listeriosis can cause premature labour or a still birth.
8. Peanuts: If you, the father of your baby or your children have an allergic condition including asthma, eczema, hay fever or any allergic reaction to nuts, shellfish or strawberries, you may be advised to avoid peanuts. It is thought that if peanut protein crosses the placenta to the baby, the child could develop an allergy to peanuts later on in life.
9. Raw or undercooked eggs: Pregnant women are advised to avoid eggs in any form. This includes sorbet, mousse, meringue and home-mayonnaise. This is because there is small risk that eggs and egg products may carry the salmonella bacteria, which can cause severe food poisoning. Although salmonella will not harm your child directly, it can cause severe vomiting, diarrhoea, high temperature and dehydration in a pregnant woman.
10. Caffeine: Pregnant woman should limit their caffeine consumption to four cups of instant coffee, or six cups of tea a day. Some studies suggest that caffeine be linked to low birth weight and higher risk of miscarriage.
11. Raw meat: Toxoplasmosis is an illness caused by a parasite, which can be found in cat feaces. The parasite can also be present in raw meat and occasionally in goat’s milk. In rare cases the illness can be passed to the unborn baby via its mother, resulting in a range of problems, some of them serious. As a safeguard, pregnant woman should not eat raw or undercooked meat, unpasteurised goat’s milk or goat’s cheese or unwashed raw fruit and vegetables as it may cause harm.
12. Alcohol: No more than one or two units of alcohol once or twice a week or occasionally four units a week will not cause harm to your baby. However, alcohol does cross placenta and more research is needed, before it can be said affirmatively that it will cause no harm. Hence as a safeguard, drinking alcohol during pregnancy should be avoided.
13. Smoking: Tobacco stunt’s the baby’s growth by reducing oxygen levels and narrowing the blood vessels in the placenta. It also makes your baby’s heart beat unhealthily fast, fills the amniotic fluid with cancer-causing chemicals, increases the risk of death and reduces the chance of the baby leading a normal, healthy, lively childhood. Hence smoking should be avoided by pregnant women.
